Almost every pre workout contains a nootropic in it to help you focus in the gym. Unfortunately, many of these pre workouts are very undressed. That’s why you should take the best nootropics for fitness outside of your pre workout, preferably in powder or capsule form. Today, we’re going over what those are.
First off, I’d like to cover why you should use a nootropic to enhance your performance in the gym.
We all come to the gym at some point in our day. Whether it’s after work, school or hanging out with friends, we’re all usually pretty drained. Our mental focus isn’t there. A nootropic will help you lock in and prepare to lift hard.
When I say lift hard- I don’t mean go for PR’s every time. Lifting hard means you’re pushing yourself and using good form. I can’t count the number of times where I’ve been distracted at the gym and I didn’t go as well as I could’ve.
Once I started using nootropics, my performance went up a ton. I’m not sure if it was an energy boost or just the feeling of being mentally locked in, but nootropics certainly helped.
With that being said, I’d like to present the 7 best nootropics you can use for the gym.
Caffeine Nootropic

The most common natural stimulant that affects the central nervous system is caffeine. It is already in coffee, tea, and chocolate, and energy drinks and soft drinks add more of it. Most people drink coffee to wake up and get more energy. Caffeine is one of the best nootropics for fitness.
The FDA says that healthy adults shouldn’t have more than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. Sometimes, when it’s PR day, you’ve got to have more. Or, maybe you take coffee in the morning and a super energizing pre workout before the gym.
I would do your best to not be addicted to caffeine though. It’s not great to only be able to workout with it.
Lion’s Mane (Like Crack)

I actually bought some lions mane yesterday. It’s a great nootropic that I will write about in detail in the future but here’s what I’ve found.
When I take lions mane before the gym, my sessions are 100x better. I’m MUCH more focused and I feel in the zone. It’s almost like a dose of adderall but without feeling like a crackhead. Overall, this is one of the best nootropics for fitness.
Lion’s Mane is a type of mushroom that has been used in Chinese medicine for a long time and is now sold as a supplement. When taken regularly, it has been shown to make the brain work better. It also works well when taken with other nootropics.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Although I haven’t personally tried this one yet, a lot of my friends have. I’ve only heard good things.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine is a natural supplement that you can find in health food stores. It is said to give you more mental energy and muscle strength. It is thought to help the brain work better in a number of diseases that affect the nervous system.
Acetyl-l-carnitine has been shown to help with neuroinflammation, which is a common sign of neurodegenerative disease.
Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola Rosea is a plant that has been grown and used for hundreds of years in cold parts of Europe and Asia. A natural nootropic supplement is made from the plant’s root. It is known to improve brain function, lower stress, fight fatigue, and lower feelings of anxiety and depression. Most people take 200–600mg of Rhodiola Rosea per day in the form of capsules or tablets [12].
A study of 100 people with chronic fatigue who took 400mg every day showed that their fatigue symptoms got better after just one week of treatment.
This is a very commonly known and used nootropic.
Ginkgo Biloba (Brain Boost)

Excuse the funny name. Ginkgo biloba is a herbal supplement made from the dried leaves of the plant. It is one of the most widely used natural nootropics. Studies have shown that Ginkgo biloba improves the way the brain works and makes people feel better.
A study from 2017 found that dementia patients who took Ginkgo biloba every day for at least five months felt better.
L-Theanine Nootropic

If a “nootropic pre workout” doesn’t have l-theanine it’s bs. Don’t buy it.
L-theanine is an amino acid that can be found naturally in tea and some mushrooms. It can also be taken as a pill to help the brain work better. This supplement has been shown to help people who have trouble staying focused or getting their thoughts together. It also helps your mind in other ways, like reducing anxiety and stress.
L-theanine could cause mild side effects like headaches or making you feel sleepy.
Huperzine A

Chinese club moss is used to make a chemical called huperzine A. In China, this substance has been used to help people with Alzheimer’s. It naturally raises the level of acetylcholine, a brain chemical that is very important.
It is used to help people remember things and keep their brains working well. It’s one of the best nootropics for fitness.
